JERUSALEM (CBS) – One of the four people killed in a brutal attack at a synagogue in Jerusalem Tuesday was the son of a late Boston rabbi, according to a published report.
Police say two Palestinians stormed the synagogue with meat cleavers and a gun and attacked worshippers. The two men were killed in a shootout with police.
According to the Jerusalem Post, one of the four worshipers killed was Rabbi Moshe Twersky, the 59-year-old dean of an English-speaking Israeli religious school.
Rabbi Twersky, according to the New York Daily News, was the son of the late Rabbi Isadore Twersky, a Boston Rabbi and a professor at Harvard University.
The paper cited the elder Twersky’s 1997 obituary in the Harvard University Gazette, noting that Isadore Twersky founded Harvard’s Center for Jewish Studies and served as its director from 1978 until 1993.
